I still think Suzumiya Haruhi deserves the award purely on the impact it made. It's not the winners that I disapprove of in regards to that category, since they were both great anime, though in vastly different ways, it's the nominees. I mean, how do mediocre series like F/SN and REC get nominated, while H&CII and Bokura ga Ita get the bone? Really...

I highly dislike Haruhi Suzumiya winning the best anime of the year, because although it was admittedly good it wasn't as awesome as H&C II or Mushishi per se. That's highly my opinion, but from technical basis the story and plot of the latter two triumph far and away over the disjointed, simple story of Haruhi Suzumiya.

As for the other things ... I have comments but am too lazy to reply as of now. I'll come back later.

I watched it four times in theatre, LOL. (I've never seen a movie more than once willingly before this)

Well, if you ever intend on checking it out, just don't judge it by the trailer. It tries to make it seem like a Chronicles of Narnia ripoff when the movie itself is actually a lot more like a slice of life series.

Slice of Life stuff is hard to find in action/drama heavy Hollywood. :(

AnimeReactor needs to have like a best Slice of Life series or something... :(

That is pretty off topic :p

No. I hadn't even heard of it til you brought it up. I'm thinking it probably hasn't been released in Australia yet.

Heh. I remember following these awards when i was first immersing myself into anime.

It's a little disheartening that fantastic shows like Aria/Kamichu don't fit so cleanly into any of these categories. :(

Btw, this is unrelated, but hey Sorrow, have you watched Bridge to Terabithia? Too good! ^^

I think most of the choices made by the community and the jury reflect both the popularity and the quality of particular animes quite accurately, but if I had to bitch about few things...

@Best visuals
Pale Cocoon was indeed beautifully animated and probably superior to Kyoani's animation in haruhi. Mushishi had an interesting style too but in my opinion, Kemonozume takes the cake easy. So many animes out there are using tired old traditional style of animation, generic character designs with red, green, blue colours for their hair, huge eyes, etc etc. Kemonozume is seems bit experimental but its sheer unique factor, the way it portrays chaotic movements, beautiful scenaries, creating moods of intense lust, greed, desire.
Noein is overrated, I don't know why so many people rate its visuals so highly. It does have beautiful images, such as those aliens, oboro using computer graphics, but things like their 3-dimensional home, looks so fake and out of place. And character designs are ugly with weird eyes, faces and bodies that move like puppets controlled by a puppeteer sometimes. Action scenes are animated nicely though with sketchy animation.

@best comedy
I agree with jury, ouran beats haruhi at comedy :D
They both are funny in different ways, but ouran is the one which would be more lol-inducing.

@best fanservice
Yup, haruhi wins again, no question. What is the best anime that features a fanservice? Why haruhi of course!

@best quickwatch
Pale cocoon was decent :/
Maybe not award-winning but decent...

@villain
Ouba ftw -__-
